Rahat Ibn Rafiq is an Assistant Professor at Grand Valley State University with over 5 years of relevant experience in the field of machine learning and data mining. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he conducted extensive research on cyberbullying detection systems and mobile video chat flasher detection apps. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and a Higher Secondary Certificate in Secondary and Higher Secondary Certificate from Rajshahi Cadet College. Rahat's professional experience includes working as a Member of Technical Staff at ThoughtSpot, where he was part of the SpotIQ team that used scalable machine learning techniques to generate business insights for businesses using ThoughtSpot as their primary BI tool. He was responsible for implementing Time Series algorithms to generate time-sensitive business insights and building scalable algorithms to provide personalized and relevant business insights to users using machine learning, data mining, and recommendation system algorithms. Prior to his role at ThoughtSpot, Rahat worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he conducted research on cyberbullying detection systems for Vine and developed a highly accurate cyberbullying classifier using sophisticated machine learning techniques. He also worked on delegating the load of data computation to handheld devices and machines and developed a system for guardians to monitor their youths' activities on online social networks like Vine and Instagram. Rahat's tech stack includes ML, recommendation systems, software engineering, deep learning, Python, and TensorFlow. He is currently investigating the temporal properties of cyberbullying in online social networks such as Vine and Instagram and exploring the feedback behavior of the android app that he developed, BullyAlert.
